it’s not too late to donate if you haven’t!)

I’ll be taking the babies to the pet store this afternoon. They do adoptions on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings starting at 6, so I’m going to take the kittens over there mid-afternoon so they’ll have a few hours to acclimate to their new surroundings before adoptions start. In a perfect world they’ll all be adopted tonight, but I doubt that will happen. Kittens go fast, though, so I bet they’ll all be adopted in less than a week. Maybe not, but I prefer to think they will be. This is hard, but I know they’ll go to good homes. The adoption counselors are very careful about who they adopt the cats out to; not just any yahoo can waltz in and adopt a cat, you know, which is very comforting. Yesterday afternoon I was hanging out with the babies in their room, and I was baby-talking them – oh please, you KNOW I talk baby talk to those cats constantly – and Flossie was sitting across the room playing with a straw, and she sat up and looked at me. I said “You’re the one I worry most about, Prissy Pants.”, and she WALKED over to me, and she stood up and put her paws on my stomach, and she was purring to beat the band. I like to think she was telling me she was going to be okay. That, or she was begging me to keep her, one or the other. They’ll be fine, they’ll be fine, they’ll be fine, they’ll be fine… Ugh. This is going to SUCK. I just need to keep in mind that they might have to spend a little time in a small cage, but then they’ll go home with someone who will love and adore them nearly as much as I do (heh), and they’ll have the run of the house, and be spoiled rotten. This is probably the best way to do this, actually. Because I leave for Maine on Friday and so won’t be at the petstore to clean-n-feed next Monday, or the Monday after. So it’ll be almost three weeks before I’m back at the petstore, and I am SURE they’ll all be adopted by then. They’re so damn cute, how could anyone resist? As I told Fred last night, though, if I walk into the petstore at the beginning of August and see any of them sitting there in a cage, all bets will be off.

In lieu of a real entry, I’m going to toss up a bunch of pictures of the kittens and then go spend some time snuggling with them. I’m sure tomorrow’s entry will consist of nothing but a ton of kitten pictures, so I can clear off my memory stick, so we should be back to business as usual Thursday. And then Friday I leave for Maine, so you’ll have to do without me for ten days! Dsc06120 This toy drives the kittens nuts. They get hold of it, and run around the room with it in their mouths, and if anyone gets too close, they growl. It’s hilarious – I actually got some of it on tape; I’ll have to make a little movie for y’all to see. Dsc06070 This is possibly the best picture I’ve ever taken of Flossie. She’s so damn pretty. Dsc06056 Chewing on one straw, but keeping his eye on the other. He’s no dummy, that one. Dsc06051 Straws are the best cat toys EVER. Except that they keep knocking them under the closet door and can’t get them out again. Dsc06037 “It drives the wimmins wild when I sit like this.” Dsc06029 “Ya puts your paws in the ay-er like you just don’t cay-er!” (part two) Dsc06026 The hokey-pokey. It IS what it’s all about! Dsc06021 Don’t dangle a tail in front of the Flossie-Monster, unless you want it bitten. Dsc05960 Edgar happily cleans the end of his tail. Dsc05953 Smilin’ Oy with water on his chin. Dsc05947 Shaddup. Yes, he’s licking my lips, but he’d just spent five minutes drinking water, so his mouth was clean. Also, it makes him so damn happy. Also, did I mention shaddup? Dsc05923 Snoopy’s watching Fred mow the lawn. It was quite fascinating, apparently. Dsc05895 “NO SHE DI’INT!” Dsc06016 “Hello, my baby Hello, my honey Hello, my ragtime gaaaaaaal!”]]>

  1. Bye babies!!! It was sure fun while it lasted. You’re breaking all of our hearts.
You & Fred did a good thing by raising those kittens, Robyn! & just think – since you upheld your end of the deal (by not keeping any), you get to be a foster family again, right?? There might be more cute babies in your future!

  2. That’s RIGHT, Shelly! I get to foster again, though probably not right away. But I do, because I didn’t fall on the floor and beg to keep one (or all) of them.
(Though that might chance after I get back from the petstore and fall on the floor and beg Fred to let me go back and get them! Heh.)

  3. Robyn, You are so talented taking photos! Those kitties are so cute and fortunate to have had you as their big mommie (since Mia was their little mom).
I’ll miss hearing about them. Try not to cry too much as you say goodbye!
Have a nice visit in Maine!

  4. Robyn, I’ve been thinking who might be good to play Stephanie Plum and I came up with 2. Lauren Graham from Gilmore Girls and maybe Drew Barrymore might be good! What do ya think?

  5. I hate to see the kitties go. I have really enjoyed seeing pictures of them. I can’t believe you didn’t break down and ask to keep one of them! But like you said, this way you will be able to be a foster mommy again, so we can look forward to new kitty photos in the future!

  6. Those last two pictures just cracked me up! LMAO I will miss those babies but I look forward to “meeting” more someday! Anyone that adopts any of the babies is one lucky person in my book.

  7. Hi Robyn,
You are being really strong about this. I know you’ll miss them. It is good that you’re going to Maine as a distraction.

  8. My cats love straws too, and play some sort of straw hockey game up and down our hallway with them. Everytime I open the door to the guest room (we normally keep it shut), I find a half dozen straws and/or milk jug caps. Then it’s like Christmas for kitties when I give them back!

  9. Robyn,
You know my sweet little dog came from a foster program. Her foster mom, Pam, had her mama and the puppies until they weaned and could be adopted. We met Pam and still go back to the center to see her. She has raised MANY litters of pups since then and they have all been adopted. She LOVES raising pups. Mine is such a bright spot in my life. I tell you ALL that to tell you that you should definitely leave your website info for the adoptive parents. (Someone suggested that a day or so ago.) NOt only would they LOVE seeing their baby as it grew but also would have a way to keep in touch with you if they so desire and let you know how things go, or email a picture, etc. Maybe you don’t want that contact after adoption but I think these pictures and day by day updates would be PRICELESS to the new parents!!!
I think it has just been great what you have done and are doing for these kitties and the others that will be helped with your fundraising and volunteerism. YOU GO GIRL!!!!!
    🙂 kathy

  10. Go Amy! I love the Lauren Graham as Stephanie Plum idea. I have had the hardest time trying to find someone in my mind I think would fit – what a great suggestion!

  11. I made my donation today. 🙂 I’m always late..what can I say? 🙂
I’m sorry to see the babies go, but y’all have done a great job raising them. I hope the homes they go to will spoil them rotten!

  12. Oh, I feel so sad seeing them go. I can’t even imagine how you must feel. Thanks so much for taking care of them and sharing their stories, pictures, movies, etc. You have a great heart and I’m hoping this won’t be too tough on you! Just remember, they couldn’t have had a better start in life than what you and Fred gave them!!

  13. My husband just saw me looking at your kitten pictures, didn’t know it was a blog I was reading, and said immediately, “We are NOT getting another cat!” LOL.

  14. I think you rock, Robyn! You have been a brilliant foster mom – and these kitties will be delightful cats because you have socialized them so well!
Our cats are sisters – from the shelter, 15 years old. They are very anti social – I think they had never been around humans until being left at the shelter. They are good kitties, but they really want anything to do with us. They live on our second floor and NEVER come downstairs. Some friends don’t even know we have them.
Your babies are going to be fine. I’m kinda glad you are going to Maine, it will probably help to be away….

  15. best of luck to the kitties in getting a new home. I’m not sure if I’d have the strength to get ’em up if i got attatched. heh. Have fun in Maine!

  16. If there is anything better than your kitty pics, it’s your captions. Pissin’ myself here….the “wimmins”…heh…

  17. I’m all about the double commenting today..
Ok, I will admit, I am laughing but cryin’ a little too, the Flossie story broke my heart…SOB! I think you two belong together, it is another Miz Poo love affair…but I know you can’t so you can help other kitties in the future, or wait, send someone else down there to adopt and they can bring her back to you…bwahahahahah!!

  18. You all are awesome to keep the kittens and raise them well..and now they will find wonderful homes. It’s so sad though..they will be split up and not with you all.I know I would be sobbing.

  19. Catie, I’m glad I’m not the only one who talks baby talk to the photos! Those are the sweetest kittens, and Robyn, you are the sweetest person for taking such good care of them.

  20. Just a suggestion – you could give the new adoptive parents their particular kitty’s baby pictures. I would so love that if I adopted one! (but boo hoo I am in Australia).

  21. Oh, Robyn, it will be hard, but you can do this. My dog too came from a foster home and she is the most loved lil dog, she would never have been mine without a foster mom like you. What an amazing check to present…for such a great cause! You have a lot to be proud of….Fred…let her keep just one if she wants, PLEASE!!

  22. I had the same idea as Kathy – not to make tooooo much more work for you, Robyn, but maybe you could put together a few photos for each of the babies (like a baby book?) and send them along to the pet store for the new parents. I think the photographs you have taken are priceless, and I bet the kittens’ new families would love to have them.
Have a wonderful time in Maine!
