reading: Fat Girl, by Judith Moore. Finished last night: The Things We Do for Love, by Kristin Hannah. Good book and I ended up staying up late to finish it, but if you can’t see the ending by the time you’re 50 pages in, you have to be clueless.

So thanks for all your headache advice, y’all. I did a little looking around online, and I did have a lot of the symptoms of a migraine – fatigue, neck pain, pain on one side of my head that moved to the other side – which leads me to my next question: Is it common for a woman in her late (::sob!::) thirties to suddenly start having migraines? Because I’m pretty sure that I’ve never had a headache that lasted for two days before. I was even ready to take my ass to the doctor, and y’all KNOW I’m no fan of going to the doctor.

How ’bout that whole Oprah thing? For those of you who haven’t heard, she was turned away from Hermes when she wanted to dash in to buy a watch for her BFF Tina Turner. One report stated that employees of the store said they’d been “having problems with North Africans lately”, but another report states that they knew exactly who Oprah was. You can bet there are people shitting and heads rolling in gay Paree right about now. And if Oprah actually does a show about the whole thing? Whoo-ee. Hermes better pack it in. They’re going to be hurting. Not that I care about Hermes one way or the other, you understand. Now, if Target had turned her away, that’d be a whole ‘nother story…

Fred and I were laying in bed the other night, and I said “I guess I need to make an appointment to take Edgar in.” Fred said, “How come?” “Because of the rattle. You know, the rattle I was telling you about?” Long silence, and then I realized why he was confused. “Edgar the car,” I said. “Not the cat.” “That’s a fairly important piece of information you might have wanted to share,” Fred said. Oh, the hilarity that ensues when your car and foster kitten have the same name! I could almost hear the laugh track in the background.

So, I mentioned in the past that we like to watch Family Plots, and someone asked if we liked the show. Well, of course we like the show! How can you not like a show set in a mortuary, with a set of characters like that? I could do without the occasional dead-body-involved scene when Shonna’s in the middle of embalming. Shonna, by the way, is my favorite. She doesn’t hesitate to say how it is, and she reminds me a little of my sister. I pretty much like everyone on the show, though Chuck gets on my nerves, probably because he reminds me A LOT of someone I can’t stand (someone I know in real life, though haven’t had to deal with for about five years now – longtime readers might remember Tex). We always look forward to watching the show, and in the past few weeks we’ve made a point of settling down on Saturday nights to watch two episodes of Family Plots and then Intervention. Speaking of TV, we watched Entourage from Sunday night, and were REALLY surprised to see Ralph Macchio. Especially since it took us until Drama said “Macchio! Tell Hefner you let the monkeys out of their cages!” for us to realize that it was, in fact, Ralph Macchio. I have no idea what it is, but the man looks NOTHING like he did when he was the Karate Kid, and it can’t be blamed on bad plastic surgery, because he’s a perfectly nice-looking man, but I never would have known that I was looking at Ralph Macchio.

Hmm. Nope, not a damn thing going on ’round here today. Let’s talk about the kittens, shall we? Did you feel the earth shake on its axis Sunday? Miss Flossie actually let me pick her UP and snuggle with her for a good two or three minutes, and she didn’t fight it or anything! I guess the best time to get some kitty snuggling is when they’re just waking up. I’ve started wearing a sweatshirt into the cat room because now every damn one of those kittens climbs up the back of my shirt at some point, and a plain old t-shirt isn’t protecting me enough. The sweatshirt, however, will absorb those sharp little kitten claws, and they can climb to their heart’s content without maiming me. This morning, they somehow knocked over the platform thingy they love to jump on, and they thought it was the COOLEST THING EVER. For at least ten minutes, all five of them were running at and jumping on the platform, then jumping off and racing around the room like their little butts were on fire. I’ll have to remember to get a picture of it, so y’all know what I’m talking about. Dsc03524 The kittens love my camera. They’ve been known to attack the camera and drag it across the floor by the strap. Which makes it somewhat difficult to take pictures sometimes. Dsc03521 Sleepin’ Edgar. Dsc03510 I swear, I don’t think Peanut’s tongue is EVER in his mouth. Dsc03508 Oy just loves chewin’ on straws. Dsc03469 Such a sweet Miss Flossie. Dsc03373 “I haff come to suck yoor blooood.”

  1. I learned that it IS fairly common for a woman in her late thirties to start getting migraines. Especially around their monthly cycle. They have really good migraine pills, which can knock it out in 20 minutes, so it’s worth the expense, imho.

  2. I wuv OY! I just want to wudgie…wudgie… wudgie…him to pieces.
Sorry if my above kitty talk makes no sense. 😛

  3. Yeah, my stepmother developed severe migraines in her 40’s. she turned 50 last year and still suffers from them. She has to go to Tennessee to see a specialist at Vanderbilt. Sorry, if I scare you with that news, but some remedies that she uses (and that I’ve used recently) are to fill a cotton sport sock with rice(not the instant kind). The smallest bag of China Doll is just the right amount. Tie the end in a knot and stick it in the microwave for 1-1.5 minutes. Then wrap it in a handtowel and stretch it across the back of your neck. This thing works wonders for tension headaches (which feel like a general soreness and pain in the neck and muscles of the skull/forehead).
Migraines, for me at least, are piercing/stabbing pain that feels “deep” in the brain, (Sorry, hard to describe), with nausea and light aversion. Usually, if I am able to be the slightest bit active I consider it not to be a migraine. Also, if you start having bad headaches more than twice a month it is a good idea to keep a journal/log of what time it started, where it is, what it feels like (stabbing/throbbing/dull, etc.), and also what you took for it and when(including caffeinated drinks that you drank, sometimes those help). You can show this to a doctor if you decide that the headaches are a problem.
Sorry for the long post. I feel your pain, hope this helps some.
P.S. Brain tumors don’t generally hurt, so don’t worry about them:)
P.S.S. Where can I go to adopt one of the kitties (when they are old enough)? We live in B’ham so it isn’t that far to go for so much adorable cuteness:) Or are they pre-adopted already?

  4. i love your cat pictures! i am 27 and i have very very frequent migraines since i had my first baby 6 years ago, and i get those suckers every couple days and they linger on. i pop a bunch of benedryl; an tylenol to knock myself out and it works sometimes.
i hope you can find something that works for you, i know they are painful and hard to deal with.

  5. I have been having issues with migraines since I had the good ole’ Histo in August, seems a woman of 31… er, ummm 32? Well… Whatever, isn’t meant to go through meno.. then the Primerin causes Migraines, the pills to stop the migraines cause my fingertips to go numb… and that just sucks for a writer!!! So, for the past year its been trial and error, living with it and a lot of living in the dark. I get them two to three times a week hun, so can definately “feel your pain” literally 😉
And I still want Snoopy *Wahhhh*
I don’t know about anyone else, but I am impatiently, childishly awaiting the release of the Half Blood Prince, anyone else?
And….. I’m dying to see the rest of the Oprah fallout too, its going to be good. Good Gosh, if we thought that they had it bad in Texas up against her, can you image Paris????? Weeeeeeeeeehhhhhaaaa!

  6. Thanks for throwing in some pics of your cats recently with the other kitty pictures. I miss all the pictures of poo and boogers. 🙁
I’d see a doctor about your headaches – you never know what’s going on with them.
I used to get pretty bad headaches (like those rebekah describes, to the point where I could do nothing but lay down and hope it got better) a few times a month and lived my life daily with a mild headache. Once I started drinking over 100 ounces of water a day, the headaches became much less frequent and I haven’t had a migraine-like headache for many months now. I guess I was just dehydrated. 🙁

  7. Bwa! “I just want to wudgie…wudgie… wudgie…him to pieces.”
THANK YOU for putting actual words to the sounds I make to our cats! That’s EXACTLY my baby-kitty-talking voice, but I wouldn’t have known how to spell it out.
I think I’d wudgie-wudgie most at Peanut. What a doll!

  8. I have hormone related migraines every month so I really look forward to that time of the month. Some months are better than other for number of headaches and severity. Usually Excedrin Migraine and ES Tylenol will get rid of them. Also for those wondering why heavy narcotics will not get rid of headaches…they aren’t necessarily designed to get rid of headache pain and yes there is a difference between headache pain and other pain. Headaches can be caused by dilated blood vessels in the brain and narcotics aren’t going to do diddly squat to make those blood vessels constrict. They’ll block the pain receptors for awhile but when that wears off those blood vessels are still probably dilated and you’ll still have that headache.

  9. *has died from cuteness overload*
KITTENS!!!! I especially lurve Peanut. So adorable!
I’m fostering four babies and a momma cat right now for CHI…taking them to the store tonight, actually, in hopes of getting them started on finding their forever homes. It’s hard to let them go…but I’m looking forward to restoring order to my guest bedroom (which they have TRASHED).

  10. I love Family Plots too..but isn’y Melissa annoying as hell? Too bad that she and Rick didn’t wprk out…but she takes every chance she can to throw a dig in at him or about the fact that she is glad she didn’t marry him. She sounds so beeyotchy about it all…then not a month later she is “madly in love” with another guy? Puhleeze.
I like Shonna the best, too.
I just love a quirky family on TV…hee hee

  11. A bit off topic, but….Robyn did you read Metro Girl by Janet Evanovich? Do you know if this is going to be a new series and when the next comes out? Have you read Eleven on Top yet?

  12. My Gawd ! You and Fred take the BEST cat pics on the planet!
You might want to consider a “cat greeting card company” if you ever get bored with what you are doing now.

  13. Migraines are typically caused by a slowed blood supply to the head. I took a friend who was suffering with migraines twice a week and was frequently completely incapacitated to yoga class and she’s had one headache since going a month ago. I highly recommend talking to someone who knows enough yoga to teach you stuff that will increase the blood supply to your head. It really helps a great deal — it sure has helped me.

  14. OK – I realize this post is from forever ago, but I had to note that Family Plots takes place in Poway, CA, right near where I used to live. My grandfather’s funeral was at that funeral home! It was so freaky to see it a few years after the fact…
