Guess who’s the smarty pants who used the litter box this morning?

She announced it the entire time. “I’M GOING INTO THE LITTER BOX!” and then “I’M IN THE LITTER BOX!” and then “I AM USING THE LITTER BOX!” and lastly “I WENT PEEPEE IN THE LITTER BOX!”

I told her what a smart girl she is, but she just looked at me like “DUH, I KNOW that!”

“We’re not impressed. We could use the litter box if we wanted to. We don’t wanna. So THERE.”

I love how her whiskers are black at the root and white at the end. Your roots are showing, Emmy!

“::sigh:: I thought I might get ONE minute to myself… They always manage to track me down.”

“So, I’m still not quite getting this. I’ve got the one paw up here by my mouth that I’ve been biting on, and then there’s THAT one over there. You’re saying there are two of them, like, seriously?”

“Darwin, you gonna come out and play?”
“No, I think I’m just going to stay in the box and chill.”

HEY. Did you hear that there are two awesome kitties in Maryland who need a home? I might have mentioned it, maybe. I’m mentioning it again!

Read more about them here, and if you aren’t in the market for two lovebugs, please pass the word along!

Also, more pics and some video of them here.

Noms video! Please note that there is no sound to this video because I was babbling in baby talk and thought I’d spare y’all. It was so annoying (the baby talk) that I’ve decided to build a time machine so I can go back and smack myself in the head. Gah. SHUT UP AND STOP BABY TALKING THE BABIES, ME.

In the last snippet, you’ll see Newbery doing his favorite trick. He likes to climb face-first into my lap, then wriggle around so he’s upright again. He does it every time I go into the room. So CUTE.

(You can also see it directly at YouTube.)

  1. Robin, I just saw a video online about Japanese cat restaurants. No, they do NOT serve cat, the customers can come and have a cup of tea and watch the resident kitties play, or get down on the floor and play with them personally. People who can’t keep cats come after work and play with cats to relax. I love the Japanese. Anyway, it’s the same sort of thing you’re doing for the rest of us, except we don’t get to be there in person and you aren’t making any money at it. If I was proficient at internet things, I’d send you the url, but alas I’m a dud. It was on Reuters, maybe you can google it? The cat room is set up with everything kitties could ever want.

    1. Oh, I’ve seen pictures from those restaurants – are they like cafes? I wish we had those around here! (Well, I guess *I* kind of do. 🙂 )

  2. One more thing that is maybe more relevant to today’s post. I raised 2 kittens from birth about 6 years ago. Kept them in a big aquarium with a heat lamp when they were tiny. Just because I was stupid and didn’t know better, I put a tiny box of litter at one end of the aquarium. The babies were using it before their eyes were open. I swear. I was bottle feeding them and using a warm, damp washcloth every time to express the poo and pee. I was watching the first time Charley crawled to the box and peed, then crawled back to his brother. I couldn’t figure out how he knew to do that, the cardboard box had no cat smell on it, nor did the litter. I kept up my routine for another week or so, but the babies had their eyes open by then and were using the box regularly. They both survived and grew into the best housecats ever, not because I knew what I was doing, obviously, but because we loved them so much.

  3. Hey, I just wanted to share some news with you, though I’m still tracking down info. Are you familiar with that Caboodle Ranch in Florida? It was a fantastic place for cats, ideal. Well, today on Facebook I read a post by them that ALL the cats have been seized by ASPCA, and not sure what has happened to the owner – a man who devoted his life to those cats!

Here’s their Facebook page, if you’d like to read more:

    1. I’ve been following the Caboodle Ranch story, and it’s so sad. I fear that he’s up against an organization with almost unlimited funds, and I don’t know that he’ll ever get those cats back (if they haven’t been euthanised by now).

  4. I think Logie was saying “I’ve got to pee”, rinse and repeat as she was going to the litter box. That’s what I usually say as I’m going to the human litter box. Than I say “awwww, much better now.”

  5. I’m so upset over the Caboodle Ranch situation. At first, I’m not so sure what to think. Now, I suspect it was the neighbors getting upset about so many cats. I hope Craig gets his large volume animal permit and they let the cats come back. They have to be so scared. I still can’t believe they took his helper, who just moved onto the rounds weeks before this started, personal cats away too.
