New month, new banner!

I made this one. I adore that picture of the duck, flooping up out of the water.

They just love those homemade seed blocks so very, very much.

The daffodils around the cat house in the back yard have started to bloom. I love daffodils, they’re my favorite flower.

Her “let’s play!” pose. You can’t see him in the picture, but George is not far away.

Dirty, dirty dawgs.

I don’t know how she stays so clean and blindingly white. Probably she doesn’t venture forth from the coop when it’s muddy out.

Young rooster, chasing after a hen.

2012-03-01 (8)
One thing that good roosters do is, when they spot food, they cluck so that the hens will know that they’ve located food. It’s similar to the noise a mother hen makes for her babies. Toasty the rooster called this little hen over, and she came running because hens so love them some food.

2012-03-01 (9)
Between the two of them, they polished it off in no time.

2012-03-01 (11)
Two young roosters, facing off. The white one on the right displays what we call “Umbrella Neck.”

2012-03-01 (12)
Note that the adult chickens have no time for this nonsense.

2012-03-01 (13)
The young ones are all “Yeah? You’ve got Umbrella Neck? ME TOO! MY Umbrella Neck is way more Umbrella-y than yours!”

2012-03-01 (14)
Then the black rooster took it to the next level and jumped at the white one, who reacted by clutching his pearls and running off while clucking hysterically.

Roosters keep watch while the wimminfolk eat.

Another daffodil.

I need to get out near the fruit trees with the camera – at least a couple of them are already covered in blossoms, and they’re awfully pretty.

Is it Spring? Because it certainly feels like it!

Tuesday night, little cross-eyed Lucy got herself adopted! Here’s a refresher on just who Lucy Peppers is:

The story is that the people who ended up adopting Lucy were originally looking at Sally. Lisa got Sally warmed up and they were petting her, then she opened the cage that Everett and Lucy were in, and Lucy was friendlier, so they ended up deciding to take her. Hey, I’m just thrilled that Sally was allowing them to pet her at all! Everett was still hissy (did I mention that when I put him in the cage with Lucy on Monday he hissed at her, then hissed at me, and then hissed at someone walking by?). I’m sure that given a few more days, Everett will be his big ol’ loverboy self.

This is HUGE – Lucy only had to spend another week in that cage before someone came along and fell in love with her sweet little self.

I’m hoping that this weekend will be the weekend that Everett and Sally go. Fingers and toes crossed!

(This was written last night; as of this moment I can hear two babies in there yelling away!)

No babies. I thought for SURE she was going to have those babies on the 29th! Oh, she’s a stubborn brat – still eating like crazy, if anything her appetite has picked up. She’s getting bigger by the moment, I swear.

“Were you just thinking about bringing me food? Because I could eat.”

A couple of people requested a belly video the other day, after I mentioned that her belly was a squirming mass o’ babies. It took some doing, but here you go:

It’s really kind of mesmerizing, no?

  1. I NEED TO SEE THOSE BABIES!!!!! Also, that video? Totally creepy – in a sweet way, if that makes sense.

  2. My gosh that video is fantastic! Robyn, thank you for taking the time to do that. I’ve watched it twice already, the movement is SO vivid. What a fun day ahead, babies, babies, babies.

I look forward to watching this lil foster group grow right before our eyes. Enjoy….

  3. I dreamed this morning that she had NINE, but they were… puppies! Seven white fluffy ones, like baby Grand Pyrenees, one black-and-white-patchy one, and one brown plastic boxer which she kept biting the legs off of, one at a time, because it kept trying to get away. In my dream, I could reach right into the monitor and pet them, pick them up and snuggle them, etc.

I went downstairs (via my monitor, somehow) to ask you about the plastic puppy; it didn’t seem hurt (no blood, because it was plastic) but I wondered if she should be biting it like that. I couldn’t find you so I went back up, where there were now only 7 puppies left, but their eyes were open already and they were all different breeds. One was a bulldog, one was a collie, and I can’t remember the others. They were talking to me (in English) telling me that they represented every dog I’ve ever owned, and I was arguing that I’ve never owned a bulldog. If I wind up with a bulldog somehow in the next few weeks, Robyn, I’m holding you responsible.

      1. Elayne, I want your dreams. They sound so vivid and exciting. If you get a bulldog you don’t want I know at least 2 people who’d love one. PA, NJ and TX aren’t that far, right?

  4. That video creeped me right out. And apparently I can’t check Facebook without logging in to Facebook. So I guess I’ll have to wait for baby updates.

  5. No fair you guys have Spring! It is snowing this morning, here in Idaho. Awesome news about the babies!

  6. Your website must be inundated with people checking for baby news; every time I click over to see if there’s a new update (even though logically I know it’s more likely to be on Facebook than here) it takes aaaaaaaaaaaaaaages to load the page. But I keep checking anyway… Surely there were more than three kittens in there!

I am getting no work done today, and it’s all Emmy’s fault. I think I should get a kitten as fair and just compensation. (c:

  7. That video is amazing. We have never had a pregnant cat, I didn’t know you could see the movement so vividly. Happy baby day!

  8. Yippee! Kitty BAY-BEEEEEES!!! Thanks so much for sharing this with us, Robyn (cuz I know we’ll get to see more pics and video soon).

    Yay, Lucy!

  9. Louann is right! What a wonderful way to start March and your lovely new banner too-Spring is so lovely. I’ve always been an autumn person with Spring as the runner up but it may be changing. I didn’t think that was possible but the older I get the more I hate dark depressing winter and the more I long for Spring. I enjoy seeing your early Spring photos. If it’s happening down there we can’t be too far behind up here.

I’m not surprised Lucy went first. Those adorable crossed eyes killed me every time. Hoping and praying it happens for the other two when they’ve adjusted more.

Loved the belly video. I almost feel obscene looking at her swollen nipples and huge roundness. The movement was fun to watch though. I feel for any pregnant female of any species. Never have been or will be. As misty eyed as I can get over the miracle of birth part of me can’t help but think of the Invasion of the Body Snatchers too. The take over part has to really stink.

  10. Watching the babies move was awesome. Then I heard a meow and thought “IT’S COMING FROM INSIDE THE WOMB!” before I remembered there are other cats in the house that could’ve made that noise. heh.
