In the evenings, when Fred is sitting in the front room reading, the cats like to gather around. First Alice gets on her heating pad, and then eventually Tommy shows up. He loves the blanket that the heating pad is sitting on so very much that he goes into a trance. He kneads. And kneads. And kneads and kneads and kneads. I call it “the long march to nowhere.”

It annoys Alice Mo to no end when Tommy marches.

  1. Alice is marked up very similarly to my Lucy-cat! Pretty girl! Any idea what that coloration is called? I call her my cal-abby! 🙂

  4. I’m a new cat owner, so I love looking at your pics.

    I have noticed that my cat is scratching my walls to the point that she has peeled a little paint off. I’ve got two areas she keeps going to and she has a scratcher….so not sure why she is doing this.

    One last thing, I noticed in the link “Blogs I read” it’s the old format. Will you be putting the new one back??

    1. Susan, is the scratcher a vertical one? If she’s going after spots on the wall, it indicates to me that she’s a cat who likes to stretch upward to scratch (other cats prefer the horizontal scratchers). I’d move the scratcher to the spot where she likes to scratch the wall to get her to use it (if she’s a catnip lover, you might sprinkle some catnip on the scratcher to get her interested) and once she’s using it regularly, you could start moving it, a little at a time, to a spot where you’d prefer it to be.

      Also, thanks for mentioning the links page. I had no idea it had reverted to the old one, and I’m still not sure why or how that happened (possibly when we moved the site to the new host). It should be fixed now, let me know if you’re still seeing the old links page!

  5. Love the long march to nowhere. Alice is such a pretty diva no wonder Fred fell in love with her. The Brains picture and the smack down one really made me laugh.

    1. I think (though don’t quote me on it, I don’t have a complete grasp on this stuff) that it’s because she has stripes in her black fur. On the one side, she almost looks completely tabbyish, if the dashes of orange weren’t there, she’d look like a brown tabby and white on that side.

      Also, it said on her adoption papers that she’s a calitabby, that’s the only way I know for sure. 🙂

      Some people call them Calitabbies, some people prefer Tabbicos.
