Ever had one of those days when you just can’t remember the name of anything? I was chatting with my sister last night, and I was trying to ask her what Bath and Body Works products she likes, and I could NOT for the life of me think of the words I wanted to say.
“What the hell is that stuff you put in the bath?” I asked Fred.
“Bath fizzies?” he offered.
“No, not fizzies, the stuff you pour in….”
“Water?”
“Har har. No, the liquid stuff you put in, and it makes bubbles…”
“Bubble bath!” he said.
“Oh yeah, that’s right.”
Duhr.
Then I was talking to my mother on the phone and I was trying to tell her about something new we’d tried the other night.
“You take these, um… beans… Oh, what the hell are they called?”
“Baked beans?” my mother suggested.
“No, not baked beans… Oh, what the hell… Fred! What are those beans?”
“Garbanzo beans!” he said immediately.
“Right, right, garbanzo beans…”
Duhr.
I’m telling you, it’s the early-onset Alzheimer’s…

The garbanzo bean recipe we tried the other night:
Open a can of garbanzo beans, drain and rinse. Toss with 2 T. olive oil and the spices of your choice (I used garlic salt and cayenne). Spread out on a cookie sheet. Cook for 30 – 45 minutes at 450, stirring often (I stirred every 15 minutes) until beans are dark brown. (Ours were done at 30 minutes)
Fred bought a bag of dried garbanzo beans yesterday, since a bag is going to be cheaper than buying cans, soaked a small amount of the beans overnight, microwaved them for a little while, and then followed the above recipe. He said that they weren’t quite done at 30 minutes, but were burned at 40.
Anyway, they’re pretty damn good. The ones I made with garlic salt and cayenne were good, though a little more spicy than I would have liked. I’m going to make some more today, with different spices.
They’re suprisingly good AND good for you. Can’t beat that with a… thing. You know. That you beat things with?

A few nights ago I was laying in bed ready to fall asleep when the back of my arm started itching. With my eyes closed, I reached up with the hand of my opposite arm and began scratching the itch. Halfway through the scratching process, I opened my eyes, caught a glimpse of my hand, and almost had a heart attack because I thought someone else was in the room.
At least once every evening when I’m laying in bed reading, I catch sight of one of the posters of the bed and jump, thinking that someone’s standing there.
Yep. I’m a freak.

FIRST ONE TO COMMENT!!!!!!!
Now, then.
On to my real comment. What do you do with the beans – do you eat them as a serving, or do you use them as a salad topping? Do tell, because they sound freakin yummy.
That picture of the Bean would be even funnier if the word were in caps, as if he was shouting!
“TWELVE TWENTY-NINE, AND ALL IS WELL!”
Heh.
We must both be freaks. My thing in bed is the sudden feeling that I’m falling off the bed. I’m usually lying in the middle of the bed not even close to the edge!
I’ve also heard of people putting splenda and cinnamon on those roasted bean-thingys. A little something for the sweet tooth.
No matter how rested I am… seeing the Bean yawning gets me yawning. the Old Man luvs the Bean. He has me tell him anytime the Bean is in one of your posts.
I have the falling thing too but it’s falling off a cliff or sometimes down stairs. Leaves a weird feeling.
Mo – I had them as a snack, but I bet they’d be really good on salad, too!
Sofia – You’re right, I’m going to go change that. 🙂
Val – Every now and then I’ll be drifting off to sleep, and I start dreaming that I’m walking up the stairs, and I go to step up, only there’s no step there, and I start falling! Whereupon I do a whole-body jerk and am wide awake. I hate that!
Elaine – That sounds really good!
A stick!! You cant beat it with a stick!! I swear Robyn, I see myself in you sometimes and that scares me. So much. hehe *smooch*
Ami, all I could think of was “spoon” or “beater”, and neither of them sounded right!
I’m going to blame it on not sleeping well the last few nights. I can do that, right? I tossed and turned in the… you know, the thing you sleep in! (Heh!)
Yeah, Tracy is the discoverer of all my dumbassery. I like it like that.
another tasty garbanzo bean recipe.
Drain and rinse one can of garbanzo beens.
pour in food processor.
Add about 1/2 cup low fat sour cream
Add 1 chipotle chile
Add fresh cilantro to taste.
Blend till almost smooth
Spread on crackers or pita bread.
PS – your oven baked garbanzo beans is also known as “roasted chick-peas”
Robin,
I have that same clock/radio. Radical.
Oh, I can relate to your freaky scaredy cat thing. One morning I woke up to find a VERY heavy hand lying over my face, covering my mouth. I screamed, sat up, looked around, and it was GONE! It had been my own hand, which had fallen into a dead sleep, so I totally could not feel it. Talk about CREEPY.
Nice to know the Bean is fulfilling his Town Crier duties.
One of the best things about the internet is knowing you can get at least one laugh per day by reading Bitchypoo.
Your photo captions KILL ME. 🙂
Sweet crappin jesus. I love it. That kitty picture is hilarious.
Loves me some garbanzo beans! Anytime there is an option to get those instead of refried or whatever I do it!
