* * * When I was in Maine, I had a chance to visit my friend Liz and see her apartment. She moved into an apartment in downtown Portland several months ago, and I hadn’t had a chance to see it. It’s an absolutely adorable apartment within walking distance of Congress Street, and it’s located in one of those big old buildings. Her apartment is tiny, but it’s got enough space for her and it’s cute as hell. A few miles from her building, a woman was raped and beaten for several hours by a homeless man on September first. As soon as I heard that, I went into worried mother mode. “You’d better be careful if you get home or leave after dark!” I warned Liz. “I am, I’m always careful, and I have my keys in my hand.” “And don’t talk to strangers, especially male transients!” “I won’t, MOTHER!” I fretted some more. “Maybe you should buy some red pepper spray.” Which is when she and Debbie laughed at me. But you know, you can never be too careful. (Of course, if I were to buy red pepper spray to carry in MY purse, it’d only be a matter of MAYBE a week before I’d sprayed myself in the face with it.)

They’ve played “Rock You Like a Hurricane” on the radio at least three times today. Ugh.

There’s been some posting going on over at the Tater, as I slowly get caught up on watching the TV we DVR’d while I was in Maine. I also fixed the link in the sidebar so you can get there from here.

Ugh. Fred just called. It’s official: the spud has no school tomorrow. ::sob!::

“Would anyone notice if I ripped this bag of cat food open?”

  1. Good Luck with Ivan up North. I am in Selma, Alabama which is supposed to be in the direct path. Kinda scary. Hope it doesn’t hit us all too bad.
I love Miz Poo’s look in that photo … she is in the background looking rather regal!

  2. I gotta tell you, my kids ages 12 & 8 LOVE the bean pictures. I never let them read but they know when I’m reading your site and they always ask, “Where’s the bean?” hee! Stay safe!!

  3. Stay safe Robyn! My mom just went through both Charley and Frances, and trust me, it was no picnic!
    Love the Bean pics too!

  4. So your cat likes to rip up bags of food too, huh? 😉
I actually just made a post in my journal about the last hurricane I was stuck in, if you’d like to read… it’s probably too boring.

  5. Robyn,
Keep the kitties safe. And umm. The Spud, The Fred and yourself while your at it!
My kitties won’t care if anyone noticed a rip in the bag. They just rip away. Such ingrates!
    All jokes aside. Be save.
    As ever,
    Val

  6. Hope you don’t get hit hard by the hurricane!
Lena *loves* new bags of food. Somewhere around the house I have the cutest picture of her – we had put the new bag of food on top of the refrigerator to keep her out of it, and she somehow got up there and had torn the bag open and was munching away. In the picture she looks seriously guilty.

  7. Well the Bean is all set should you lose power…he KNOWS he isn’t going hungry. Funny that’s what I feed my cats too but the one for sensitive stomachs. The one you have there…that give my cats the most horrific breath!!

  8. I thought of you as I went thru the drive thru of McDonald’s to get my fountain coke – yes, so much better than out of a can or 2 liter at home! Stay safe!!!!

  9. Stay safe over the next few days…and watch the kitties for us. I want to know if they freak out before the fact. Our dog acted weird before Nisqually earthquake a few years ago. Wish I’d paid better attention to her signals!

  10. Robyn… I don’t blame you at ALL for being worried about the Spud after that awful attack. You go, Mama!

  11. Us dipshits up north are screaming “oh mannnnnnnn please hit us, we need a day off from work!!!”. We have to wait til we have a good ol’ nor’easta for that:P Stay safe and warm and dry…….get out the candles too!

  12. Hope you guys are safe and dry this morning. Funny, what struck me when I was looking at the Bean picture, is the thought of you laying flat on you belly to take the picture!
