People and US and all their references to “canoodling.” And also because you Canadians are so cool that I want to canoodle with each and every one of you.

I have misplaced my Christmas spirit; have you seen it? Somewhere between spending three hours wrapping presents last night and hearing my mother say “We’re not getting much for [the spud]. I looked at her wish list, but there’s not much on there that interests ME.”* my Christmas spirit took a long, long walk and hasn’t been back since. Maybe if I pop my $5 CD from Kohl’s in the player and listen to Emmylou Harris sing The First Noel, it’ll show up again, ya think? I made the mistake of sitting on the floor wrapping presents instead of carrying everything to the kitchen table so that I could sit in comfort and wrap. About an hour and a half in, when the presents yet to be wrapped seemed endless, I suggested to Fred that NEXT year instead of buying presents for everyone and having them buy presents for us, we could just use the money and go to the Bahamas for a week. He wouldn’t go for it, because he’s a bastard. Come back Christmas spirit, come back!
Meh.
*My problem is not that my parents aren’t getting the spud much for Christmas; there’s not a lot the child wants and pretty much nothing that she needs. My problem is that my mother said “There’s nothing on her wish list that interests ME”, as if it’s a sin that the spud has her own interests and hobbies. My mother’s main interest is clothes. The spud is about as interested in clothes as I am – ie, if it fits and doesn’t have cat poo down the front of it, it’s just fine – and thus the problem. Grrr.

I have lots of great Pet Store Kitty pics, but in my fervor to get everything deleted off the server when I was taking down OFB, I accidentally deleted the installation of Movable Type I use to create the Pet Store page, and so Fred has to work some magic. Hopefully I can get him to do that tonight and the pictures will be up tomorrow. Poor Fred. Between the spud and I, we certainly keep him hopping. He spent a good half hour yesterday deleting stuff that the spud had installed on her computer, while the spud and I took off to go to Kohl’s.

Bean Swag is up and running, the link is over there to the right, down at the bottom under Stevie and Angel. I may order the spud a Bean shirt for Christmas to go with the Tubby shirt she already has, I’m sure she’d love it.

I think I’m going to make a cd of happy songs. So far I’ve got Sheryl Crow’s “Soak up the Sun” on the list, but I’m drawing a blank for what else to put on the cd. Leave me suggestions in the comments, would you? All suggestions appreciated, but NO Christmas songs, please! I spent too much time listening to sad songs this weekend and I need to remedy that.
* * *
“The Bean is up on The Momma’s desk! I am the only kitty allowed on The Momma’s desk!” The Bean tromps around, messing up papers and pushing various and sundry objects off the desk onto the floor where they will never be retrieved. The Bean gives Miz Poo his sexy look. Rwowr! “No, that’s okay, kitties. I didn’t want to DO anything on my computer. Please! Come tromp on my keyboard AGAIN! Maybe you could have a fight and knock over my water, THAT would be fun!” Miz Poo and the Bean are offended that The Momma is not thrilled to have them tromping all over her desk and keyboard. The NERVE.

  1. Walkin’ on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves. How can you *not* do the gimpy butt dance to that song? 🙂

  2. I see.
    Dictionary.com defines “canoodle” as:
“To engage in caressing, petting, or lovemaking”
    MmmmHMMMM.

  3. Did ya tell your Mom that list is for THE SPUD, not HER? Yes, I would have said that to my Mother. My Mom spoils her grandbabies regardless if they have the same interests or not. Do you think she ever spoiled me or my sister? HA!
Your Christmas spirit and mine are at Sandals Negral soaking up the hot Jamaican sun watching the hardbodies walk by whilst sipping on tall cool fruit smoothies with a shot of rum in them.
    BAH-HUMBUG! =)

  4. Don’t worry Fred, you’re THE ONLY ONE Robyn would ever seriously Canoodle with unless Mel Gibson came over…….LOL!

  5. great suggestion Michelle! I was looking for who sang that song and then I noticed you’d already posted it. That is a “get off your ass and DANCE” song!

  6. Happy songs:
Blame it on the Bossa Nova, Eydie Gorme- I gotta dance to that one
    I Love You, Barenaked Ladies
Particle Man- They Might Be Giants. I defy anyone to not sing along to that song.
Stickshifts and Saftey Belts, Cake- It’s just so happy and bouncy

  7. Debby —
Mel Gibson is FAR too good-looking for Robyn’s tastes. If Steve Buscemi shows up, then I’ll worry. 😉

  8. Steal My Sunshine by Len
Free Falling by Tom Petty (It makes me happy)
Thank you a million times for all the cat pics these past couple days. You are the goddess of online journals.

  9. any upbeat song on the “top gun” album…ahhh, Tom Cruise.
I usually try to think of movies that I liked and find songs from their soundtrack…

  10. Wow, the Bean is growing up so big!!
Have you made a Bean Page yet – for the cast?
Are you going to? I want to see the progession – they grow so fast!

  11. She’s in Love with the Boy by Trisha Yearwood and This Kiss by Faith Hill or
    Indiana Outlaw by Tim McGraw!
    These’s is fun songs Bitchy

  12. How ’bout “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” or “Build Me Up Buttercup” by the Temptations? Of course I’m a class of ’86 graduate so any Prince song usually gets me up and grooving.

  13. * All Star (not sure if that is the correct title) by Smashmouth. Definitely a sing-along song.
    * I was also going to say Walking on Sunshine–that was the first one that popped in my head.
    * Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’ by Journey.

  14. Suggestion: Put the word “Meh.” on the back of the t-shirts. Or something else funny the Bean is saying.

  15. Suggestion: Put the word “Meh.” on the back of the t-shirts. Or something else funny the Bean is saying.

  16. Outkast- “Hey ya” Shake it like a polaroid picture!
And I’m showing my age here, but dude. “Word Up” by Cameo. I defy you to not get funky!

  17. I just noticed that in the last two pictures, the Bean looks like he’s wearing a white bowtie. Too cute!

  18. Robyn, I’m such a Grinch when it comes to Christmas. Yes,the husband and child call me Grinch or Scrooge.Anyways, there is one song by Ray Charles that just makes me feel so good when I hear it. It’s from the movie Christmas Vacation ( National Lampoons ) It’s in the scene when Cark ( Chase ) is locked in the attic. I have the full song on my PC, and I think I got it about 3 years ago on Napster. Try Grokster they may have it.I believe the title is The Spirit of Christmas. Also, I watch movies to help get me in the Christmas spirit. My all time favs are : Christmas Vacation,
A Christmas Story,The Ref, It’s a Wonderful Life, and It’s not a Christmas movie but a Thanksgiving one but none the less I still watch it even ater turkey day- Home for the Holidays. Hope this helps you out :o)

  19. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE Word Up by Cameo, also I had a typo in my first entry. It’s Clark not Cark LOL
    ~Denise~

  20. Louisanna Christmas – Aaron Nevil (yes, I’m probably mis spelling everything)
Don’t feel bad, Robin. My family is acting weird too. Kind of takes the Christmas spirit right out of me.

  21. Pandora – I haven’t yet, but I will in the next few days, I promise! 🙂
P2 – I’ll have to think of what to put there. Not “Meh”, though, because that’s what Tubby says! 🙂

  22. Robyn,
I lost the Xmas spirit also. I lost it in the store so I don’t ever think I’ll find it again. Like you, I really hate shopping. Luckily, I don’t buy too much – in our family getting together is more important than gifts.
I feel for you on the desk thing. My cats think they need love only when I’m at my computer. Andy loves to walk in front of the monitor and stand and stretch for a hour. I move him and he’s right back. I put him down and he’s back up. Being a good Mommy, I haven’t banished him from the room yet, but it’s coming . . .

  23. Girl, I SO hear you about the parent’s crap at the holidays. I just want to SHAKE my mom and inform her that it ain’t about her, dammit! It’s like she can push a button like no one else can! ‘Nuff said.
And please do rent National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. If Randy Quaid wearing a navy blue dickey and a white sweater begging for the turkey neck won’t make you bust a gut, then seeing him at Wal-World with a wadded up sock down his britches will! This is my favorite holiday comedy. Hope you get the spirit back!

  24. Happy Songs:
Let’s Hear it For the Boy or Footloose from the Footloose soundtrack
What You Need or New Sensation by INXS
    I Would Walk 500 Miles…
    I Fall Down by Chumbawamba
    Sugar Sugar by The Archies
Kiss Me by Sixpense None The Richer
Stray Cat Strut by Stray Cats
Black Coffee in Bed or Tempted by Squeeze
And We Danced by the Hooters
Almost anything from Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation CD. I wore that one out.
Just to name a few. Hope that helps.

  25. gloria estefan – ‘turn the beat around’
    ‘eye of the tiger’
    ‘jeremiah was a bullfrog’
    ‘puttin on the ritz’
    anything by barenaked ladies
I know fred likes musicals, have you guys listened to the ‘Ragtime’ soundtrack yet? It has some pretty good songs..
Oh, and Robyn, I mailed you the tape of ‘Simple Life ep 1’ today
    Sharon

  26. some more songs that inspire “happy feet”:
We Got the Beat — the GoGos
    1999 and Let’s Go Crazy — Prince
I Will Survive — Gloria Gaynor
Go Daddy-O — Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
    whee!!! makes me wanna dance!

  27. “I Will Survive” or “It’s Raining Men” by Gloria Gaynor. Can’t help but singing along with those.

  28. Robyn, all I have to say is … ARRRRGGGHHHH!!!
Now you have me calling my dogs canoodles :/ They are not happy with me either…they much prefered pretty girl and fuzzy face. I may have to go visit your christmas spirit on that beach till this blows over and they like me again. Oh..what am I thinking..that will be about supper time. 🙂
As for a get up and dance make ya smile song, try P. Diddy’s song from the Bad Boys II soundtrack, Shake your Tailfeather. It’s rap! but…dont dismiss it to quickly, give it a listen, I did and cant not dance when I hear it now.
btw..have you ever noticed any strange letters ..you know..documents and stuff on your computer? I bet they aren’t so much pissed off that you arent thrilled they are on the desk, but that you are interrupting thier writing to the ultra secret Pussycats-Always-Wear-Silkties (PAWS) organization, for fashion trendy cats.

  29. Ya know, Fred, I had to look up who Steve Buscemiis because I am so not into watching anything. Mel Gibson I know from all those Mad Max movies *YUMMY* I must say Steve Buscemiis is one ugly dude (sorry Robyn). I think I’ll go to Jamaica and join my Christmas spirit on the beach……..=)

  30. Sorry, gigit. 😉
Debby – I actually have no lust for Steve Buscemi; Fred just thinks every man I think is sex-say (see: Cyril from Oz) is as ugly as Steve Buscemi. 🙂

  31. You make me feel like dancing – Charlie’s Angels Soundtrack
    u Can’t touch this – MC Hammer
    Everlasting Love – Natalie Cole
Friends in low places – Garth Brooks
    Summertime – Bachelor Number One
    Marvin Gaye anything 🙂

  32. “Holiday” by Madonna
“Livin’ La Vida Loca” by Ricky Martin or “She Bangs” by same
“I Need to Know” by Marc Anthony
    “Family Affair” Mary J. Blige
    “Come on Over” Christina Aguleria
“Only the Good Die Young” Billy Joel
    “Freedom” George Michael
    “Medley” Gipsy Kings (excellent!)
    “Milkshake” Kelis
    “Let’s Get Loud” J.Lo.
    “Jessie’s Girl” Rick Springfield
    “Sexy” King Africa
All of the above are happy, upbeat and fun to sing along with and dance to (while doing housework)! Give some of them a try!

  33. OK, I’m going to be showing my age a bit here – and the fact that I lived in Athens, GA for 5 years:
    Shiny Happy People – R.E.M.
    Love Shack – B52’s
You’re the One that I Want – John Travolta & Olivia Newton John
Here Comes the Sun – The Beatles
    California Dreamin’ – Beach Boys
Don’t Worry, Be Happy – Bobby McFerrin
Boogie Shoes – K.C. and the Sunshine Band
    Stayin’ Alive – Bee Gees
Celebration – Kool And The Gang
Squeezebox – Who (always takes me back to the skating rink when I was in 6th grade)
Thanks, Robyn. Just typing these out brought a smile to my face!
    Hugs,
    ~Aly

  34. The Chumbamumba song is “Tubthumping” and “Raining Men” is The Weather Girls (although it may well be a cover of Gaynor for all I know, but that’s the best known version- featuring BBW Martha Wash who did the female vocals on all the C&C Music factory songs [which are quite dancey and happy making] they put a skinny chick in the videos).
    Songs that make me happy:
“Superman” by REM (although “Shiny Happy People” is probably more obvious, but it annoys some people)
    “Sledgehammer” Peter Gabriel
“Lionized” Tragically Hip (huge band in Canada)
    “Sir Duke” Stevie Wonder
    “Crocodile Rock” Elton John
“The Apartment Song” Tom Petty (same album as “Free Falling”- just an overall great album)

  35. Hey, I actually like Steve Buscemi and think he’s cute in a unique sort of way. Of course, I used to run the biggest fan page for him back in 96-98, so I would say that, eh? 😉

  36. Oh, I like Steve Buscemi, but not like *that*. I like him a platonic friends kinda way. 😉

  37. HI! Wow just reading all the great song titles makes me think you could do a side-bar page of Songs that take me from GFY to Gosh I Feel Dandy Now!
My song recommend: Jumpin Jack Flash by the Rolling Stones, but you have to think of the movie by the same title starring Whoopi Goldberg and she sings Jumpin Jack Flash in her PJs and big cat (?) slippers. Too fun.
What I Think Bean Says: He is my favorite cat of the And3rson cats. Sorry to the balance of you! Bean reminds me of my dear departed Winnie cat, who said MANY things, including (in her squeaky little bitch voice) “You Bastards” as she would trot in a huff to the bedroom when she didn’t get her way. Of course, she usually got her way. I loved her MUCH MUCH. To me, Bean sometimes looks like he’s totally surprised and shocked. Other times, I think he’s thinking “You Fucking Bastards”. And he ALWAYS looks like he’s the happiest cat going.
    Take care!
    Mary

  38. Wow, lots of cool suggestions! I’d like to suggest the group Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. They’re a cover band that turns every song into up beat punk. They do have some language, but very very funny. It always makes me do the car dance. Have fun! Hope you get your Christmas spirit back soon!

  39. I LOVE the last 2 pics of Stanley & Miz Poo together!! They are sooooo cute. They [the pictures] deserve T shirts of their own. I have a Tubby shirt; it would add to my And3rson cat collection!
(Wow. I bet my OWN cat feels pretty crappy that SHE’S not even on a Tshirt I have.)

  40. Chill Bobbin, I told her that my niece freaked over the movie I sent her…..so her mind is changed. Only twenty more days til your here with her:P Sure ya dont wanna stay wif me? *grin* BTW, your babysitting on new years eve:P

  41. You have to listen to “Blue Denim” by Stevie Nicks. Also her “Rooms On Fire” is great too. If Robyn likes Sheryl Crowe, there are several songs that Sheryl sings with Stevie Nicks such as “Sorcerer.”
Anything by George Michael is great too. I especially love his “Killer/Papa Was a Rolling Stone” which makes me want to dance.

  42. Well Robyn, I really didn’t think you liked that Steve guy, I was just humoring Fred 😉
All my happy dance songs are on the Squirrel Nut Zipper’s Album “Hot” I think it’s titled. Love James Cotton “100% Cotton” album, also KC And The Sunshine Band. Robert Palmer’s Bad Case Of Lovin’ You as well as Sammy Hager’s I Can’t Drive 55 and There’s only One Way To Rock. All the golden oldies from the 50’s and 60’s get me dancing too.

  43. You guys are ALL in my era!! Class of 86 here too!
And that Tubby picture makes my cavity hurt it is so sweet and “un”tubby like LOL!

  44. Robyn, you might not think you have any Christmas spirit left but with your request for songs you gave everyone an early Christmas present! Every song I read I was thinking, “OH! I LOVE that song! OH! and that one TOOOOOO!!”
I’ll have to make my own cd now 🙂
    My suggestions:
“Why Can’t I Be You?” – The Cure
    “Rio” – Duran Duran
“Alive and Kicking” – Simple Minds
Um, and anything off of Belinda Carlisle’s first solo album, I don’t remember what it’s called.
    Treena

  45. I meant to add, I was gonna buy my little 3 yr old niece one of the Bean swag shirts and was happy to see there was toddler sizes until I remembered that your mug is in the background..you know the one!!
Don’t think her daycare (or her parents) would love me having a shirt that says shit on it of course I am still buying ME one!! LOL
Matter of fact I would love to buy something that had that saying on it! I love it!

  46. Hey Robyn,
Before I read “no Christmas songs….. I was going to suggest the song “Mary did you know” and also the (in my case) tape ” A very special Christmas” Only a few songs suck , the rest ROCK!
Also , I think it’s the c.d. called “now that’s what i call music #3″ The grammy winners from a few years ago. That mostly rocks too. A great cleaning c.d.(It’s the one with (believe it or not)” I’m a jeanie in a bottle, baby “. I hate Brittney, but that’s a sing along song if i ever heard one.
My spouse is home sick , I have company , she is also so sick that I took her to the E.R. yesterday. Merry christmas. I also reccomend watching Christmas vacation “, as someone suggested earlier, and my sick friend and I just watched “my dog skip” and bawled our heads off. Watch it , you’ll immediately appreciate all your disfunctional loved ones.
    Luv Me
(the one you sent the O’reilly book)

  47. How about “The Girl Gets Around” by Sammy Hagar or
“Tennessee River Run” by Darryl Worley. Those 2
songs always put me in a good mood.
    Pat

  48. Yeah I was going to say ‘walking on sunshine’ too…must be THE feel good song!
Also, I’ve had the time of my life – Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes (from Dirty Dancing).
The one that does it for me is ‘Yes’ by McAlmont & Butler. Fantastic!

  49. I scanned through the comments and I don’t think anyone suggested the song My Sharona by the Knack. Whenever I hear that song, I feel like dancing around. Or how about Wake Me Up Before You Go Go. I’m almost ashamed to admit I like that song.

  50. I have been reading your journal for some time now and think you are hysterical. But I have to say that I think your Stanley is my reincarnated Buck. He passed away last July. But every picture and story you tell lets me know that he has come back. The only thing different is that tale. The eyes, the expressions….they’re killin me.

  51. I’ll 3rd or 4th “Word Up” from Cameo. I have it on an 80s groove compilation cd that lives in my car. You can bet my 10-y-o son LOVES it when I crank that bad boy up and sing. There is no music as good as early 80’s funk/groove.

  52. One last thing re Treena’s suggestion of “Alive and Kicking”…that song is even better if you change the words to “I like fried chicken” and sing it really loudly with your kid in the car with you.

  53. How about some Chaka Khan for the Holiday season? My suggestions: ‘Feel for you’ or ‘Ain’t Nobody’.
My cat Smoky looks just like the Bean, except he doesn’t have “boots” and his head is way bigger.

  54. It was all I could do to keep from snorting hot potato bacon soup out of my nose when I saw that last picture and the look on Bean’s face.
