The other day, as we were laying in bed talking, Fred turned to me with a smile. “What?” I said. “Bessie,” he said. “I think it’s time to switch beds.” Because he’d said that before and changed his mind, I didn’t believe him. I just smiled and nodded and changed the subject. But last night, after we watched The Amazing Race, he said “Why don’t we go upstairs and switch the beds around now?” I’ve been coveting Fred’s bed pretty much since he bought it. It’s a queen and smaller than the king-size bed I’d been sleeping in, but it’s a much nicer bed with a firmer mattress, and I thought it would look better in the master bedroom with all the dark furniture than the king-size bed did. In about half an hour, we had the beds switched around, and I was right. The queen-size bed looks better in the master bedroom than the king-size did. I need to buy a new comforter for the bed, though, because the red, green, and gold doesn’t really go with the blue chair in the corner of the room. I went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond to look for a new comforter today, and didn’t see a single thing that I wanted. I think I’m going to order this one. And this is what Fred’s room looks like now (he didn’t want the headboard, so it’s basically a frame with a boxspring and mattress): Oddly, though the bed is bigger, his room looks bigger than it did with the big, dark bed in it. And the master bedroom looks bigger with the smaller bed in it. I didn’t sleep terribly well last night (Miz Poo was freaked out, and insisted on sitting next to me and digging at the sheets half the night), but I think that when I get used to the new bed, I’ll sleep like a baby. At least, I damn well HOPE I do, because I don’t want to have to switch the beds around again.

I just wanted to comment on the beds. I can see why you wanted that one! I love those kind of beds.
It’s funny, I had that same bed set and now I’m looking for something blue.
I’ve pretty much settled on this one. Kind of expensive but not for the quality:

I like that one you’re looking at too, very nice.
Are you going to get the curtains too?
That is a really pretty set
Hope your granny has a speedy recovery..
love the new comforter you are thinking of buying..Are you getting the curtains too? cause they are very pretty also..
you have great taste Robyn..
have a great weekend..
I hope your grandmother gets well soon and is in as little pain as possible.
(And I’m mad now, because I was going to post a photo of me with a bar over my eyes to show how curly may hair can be when I encourage it, but then I thought, “No, people will laugh if I do that.” But you had the ovaries to do it, and now I’m kicking myself! Lesson learned. What it is, I don’t know.)
Home your gran has a speedy recovery.
As for the comforter, pretty but I have bought those $50 bed-in-a-bags before and they are always very cheaply made and scratchy. The last one I bought, I washed before I put it on my bed (so it would smell Downey fresh)…when I went to the washer to get it out, the seams had come undone and all the fiber fill was loose in the washer. In the long run it’s better to spend a little more up front. LOVE the design though.
Oh, your poor Grandma. Bad news at her age (or any age) for sure. I’m sending ‘heal quickly’ wishes.
Love the bed…brings all kinds of fun things to mind! I had the same comforter (seems as though everyone did!) and still have the matching shower curtain. Getting new bedding is fun; feels so nice crawling into a spankin’ new set of bedding.
And how cute is that cat? Sweet, kissable face.
ohhhhhh poor grandma!! I spent two months last year in a rehab centre with lots of sweet old ladies recovering from broken hips/surgeries. I hope she gets good care and physio!!
Hey, my first perm was supposed to be a body perm and ended up poodle too!! I forgot to mention that in my Friday Five.
Robyn, I’ll keep your Gram in my thoughts. But you know, they can do some really cool things these days. Hip surgery is hard, for sure. But if she’s anything like you, she’ll ferociously!
xo
er…”RALLY ferociously.”
der.
Sending good thoughts out to your gram. My mom broke her hip when she was 82, and needed surgery as well. Much will hinge on how good your grandmother is about keeping up with the therapy. My mother has been bad about it, and while she can get around, she can’t do it well. OTOH, a friend’s grandmother bounced back very fast and though she had a limp for the rest of her life, it never stopped her for a minute. Good luck.
My ex-husband’s late great-grandmother was a crusty old broad right up until the day she died at the age of 93. One day, she called my mother-in-law and was in tears (which was REALLY unusual). When mama-in-law asked what was wrong, great-gran replied, “I pulled the fridge out to clean behind it, and now I can’t push it back in.” She was freakin’ 89 when she did that! Those old birds sure can weather some storms.
I hope your gran fares well.
Oh, Robyn! Your hair looks really good in that pic! And you’re always complaining about how bad it looks! I think you hair has looked at worst decent, and at best fabulous in every pic you’ve ever put up.
Robyn….as a girl with natural blonde, stick straight hair, I am jealous of yours! Your hair looks stunning in that pic. Just enough wave and oooh, I’d kill for that volume!
Hope dinner was fun 🙂
I love your hair!! The bed looks really cool, too.
I love the hair, too! 😉
Robyn, I’m wishing a speedy recovery for your grandmother, too. Bless her heart for still going up and down the basement stairs at her age! I avoid it whenever I can, and I don’t have the excuse of being old. Well, oldER, that is. 🙂
Robyn, stick straight hair is not all it’s cracked up to be. If it’s naturally straight, it’s naturally flat, limp, and lies there and does nothing. It’s not the same as wavy hair blown straight. Then it actually has some body. Trust me, I know. And if your hair thins at all from something like hypothyroidism, it’s even worse. I decided to go short again because it covers more scalp and hair goop actually has some effect on it when it’s short. I still don’t blow it dry or anything, but at least it will stay put.
