Today would ordinarily be Crooked Acres Thursday, but I have been lax in the taking of Crooked Acres pictures (though you can always go to yesterday’s post to see George and Gracie pics), so that’ll have to wait ’til next week when things get back to normal.

Know what I haven’t been lax about? Cat pictures! You’re welcome.

Firstly, remember Harlan Peppers, who four months ago looked like this:

2011-08-23 (4)

and then he went off to Petsmart with the rest of his siblings (Molly, Sally, Lucy, Everett), and Molly was adopted quickly, then the rest of the litter languished there at Petsmart because adoptions were so slow?

Well, yesterday dear sweet Harlan was adopted! And when his new parents got him home, they let him out of the carrier, and we was terribly, terribly tense, like such:

Nope, he doesn’t look happy at ALL, does he?

This, combined with Buster’s adoption the day before Christmas, makes this a great week. I’m just hoping that the rest of the big Peppers (Everett, Sally, and Lucy) are adopted soon. As you may or may not know, black cats tend to take longer to be adopted because of silly superstitions wherein they’re considered bad luck. Everett, Lucy and Sally are such awesome kitties that they’re the very opposite of bad luck, if you ask me.

At least with adoptions picking up a bit, their chances are looking better. Y’all keep your fingers crossed for them, would you?

Charlie Peppers finds himself in a pickle.

2011-12-29 (1)
Charlie, atop the kitchen cabinets, realizes that somehow, he’s gotten turned around. If he wants to get down from the cabinets, he’s not going to be able to go that way, because the fearsome Stinkerbelle is in his way, and she doesn’t put up with, well, ANYONE invading her bubble.

2011-12-29 (2)
Well, THAT’s too far to jump, Chuckles. Can’t go down that way!

2011-12-29 (3)
He’s not comfortable jumping down onto the fridge, it seems a bit far for him still.

2011-12-29 (4)
Taking a break to ponder his next move…

2011-12-29 (5)
Stinkerbelle glares.

2011-12-29 (6)
He scoots past Alice, who’s not inclined to put up with anything, either, but she’s less shrieky about it than Stinkerbelle is, thus less scary.

2011-12-29 (7)
Hmm… nope, still too far!

Along the walkway.

Preparing to jump.

2011-12-29 (10)
And again.

2011-12-29 (11)
And he’s safe!

Charlie and Patty Peppers fight it out.

2011-12-29 (12)
Poor Charlie. Patty’s always jumping on him and kicking his butt.

::CHOMP::

“I KEEL YOU!”

2011-12-29 (15)
And then it’s nap time.

Don’t be fooled by this picture. Opie’s the biggest Son, at just under 3 pounds.

Another closeup of Tig. Something about his big round eyes and serious little face makes me want to kiss him a million times.

  1. Love all the pics – especially Elwood and Tommy.

Is The Spud on Crooked Acres this week? I was wondering if you’d see her sometime over the holiday season.

Great news about Harlan. I love when kitties get adopted by people who will spoil them as much as you did when you fostered them.

  2. Haha, our cats (brother and sister Mal and Inara) lie on top of each other all the time, but usually only when one of them is already on me and the other one wants in on the action but can’t find a good comfy spot elsewhere.

As for the black cat thing, I honestly didn’t know they were harder to adopt out. In all the times I’ve had cats, most of the time there was at least one black one in the mix!! When I was a kid my family had a black little girl named Weezy, and then my ex-husband and I had three cats: an older girl who was almost entirely black, plus siblings, a black boy and black tabby girl (I hope he still has them all; we don’t talk much). Now with our two, Mal is all black except for a few white whiskers on his chest, and Inara is a gorgeous tortie.

I love black cats and think they’re stunning, but I guess the superstitions are more powerful than I realized.

  3. Adoptions have stepped up here too this week. I have a link to local rescues and Petsmart on my fb page and a lot of kitties seem to have found their forever homes this past week! Maybe with more people home with the kids off from school they feel it’s a good adjustment time? I LOVE the black kitties too and have had several and I don’t get the whole silly superstition thing either. I know big black dogs have a hard time finding homes too. I just don’t want to do big anymore because it’s too hard if they get really sick. Ruby our Cocker Spaniel is almost all black and I think she is gorgeous. I wish I’d been born brunette. There is something so dark and mysterious and lovely about dark/black hair and fur for me. I will cross my fingers for the three black beauties, especially Lucy and her adorable crossed eyes, to catch the eyes and heart of some special cat lovers.

Elwood is MEAN to poor Tommy! Ollie will do that to Ruby on our couch too. I lay on the shorter end of the sectional and the wedge near me is considered prime dog territory. Many tiffs arise. Ruby will growl at him but then she can’t hold her ground because she’s 26 lbs. and he’s 75. He will push her out lie down and let out a contented sigh. I will tell him he’s an asshole and he just looks at me and buts his head on my hand, begging for attention. She goes way down the other end of the couch and gives us the stink eye. If I stop it he whines so loudly you feel like your ears are bleeding. Giant baby!

  4. Today’s pictures were AWESOME, especially the lumpy bed pics. Tommy looks really upset about the situation, doesn’t he?

  5. The black and whites are SOOOOOOOOOOOO adorable!!! And of course I want the little tiger!!!!

  6. Gosh, I love Clay! I haven’t lusted after a kitten this hard since the Bookworms were wee babes. You should be ashamed of yourself, inspiring kitten lust!

  7. Firstly – how CUTE are tuxedo kittens???

Secondly – thank you (and Fred!) for putting me onto Samnet at Fiverr.com. Seriously, best $10 I ever spent to get my two beloved kitties’ portraits done: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mjholland/6599023083/in/photostream and http://www.flickr.com/photos/mjholland/6593438337/in/photostream/.

And thirdly – thanks so much for the Christmas postcard, love the picture you chose for the front. Reckon you’ll take a picture of all of the cards you got sent this year?
