Baby’s got back. I was sucking it in so hard in this picture that today every muscle in my abdomen hurts. (pic) Hate the belt. Still sucking it in. I like my hair from this angle. Maybe I should walk around with my head turned and tilted all the time. (pic) Unflattering. Also, dorky look on my face. (pic) I am aware that I need to buy me some Spanx, but I don’t want to. It was bad enough that I was actually considering buying a $40 sweater to wear for ONE occasion, I didn’t want to purchase Spanx on top of it. What will really help the potbelly issue is when I pay a plastic surgeon thousands of dollars to cut the extra skin from my abdomen. Until then, I’ll dig through my closet and find something to wear Christmas morning, secure in the knowledge that no one in Fred’s family will really give much of a shit WHAT I’m wearing.
After months of talking about it, I finally ordered some curtains for my bedroom, and they came late last week, and last night Fred put up the curtain rod, and I hung the curtains, and I’m just not sure. I don’t love them, I know that, but I don’t even know if they go with the room. When I was ordering them, I asked for Fred’s input, and he said I should get them in navy, so I did and this is what they look like: (flickr) I’m aware that they need to be ironed, but other than that, what do you think? Do y’all have suggestions? I want something that will cover the windows at night (it was so nice and dark in my room last night I slept like a baby) but can be pulled to the side during the day. Any and all suggestions appreciated!
I don’t understand this position. I think he was laying on his stomach with his head turned up to face the ceiling, but I’m not quite sure. (flickr)

Well I know they are expensive but white plantation shutters would look great in your room!
Curtains? I think they are just fine the way they are! The huge benefit will be the light-filtering aspect. But, if you really dislike the solid color wall ‘o fabric, I have very similar curtains in my living room (dark burgundy) – love the tab tops! — but what I did, was alternated the burgundy panels with a color-coordinating plaid panel. Solid. Plaid. Solid. Plaid. etc. So perhaps you can check to see if there are matching curtains in a pattern that would work alternating with yours.
On another note – how scary is it, that last night I dreamt you came (with all the cats) to visit my family? I think the dream was prompted by my telling DH as we got into bed, that Fred had picked out a rooster…. and the girlz had company. I remember the dream was very funny, I think we even took a hike somewhere? – and I posted in my dream blog (non-existent in reality) that Robyn was “much nicer, sweeter” in person than she appears in her blogs” – lol. Gosh, aren’t dreams the strangest things? I wonder how many us have dreams in with you, Fred, the kitties, chickes etc. appear?? Or, is this a call for a ROAD TRIP of Robyn and Fred meeting readers across the country in 2008?? Ha!
I am not liking the navy with the purple hues.
Did they not have them in a dark purple?
Well, I like the navy curtains, and I like the “unflattering” blue sweater you were wearing in the trying-on-sweaters picture.
So.
Tommy looks possessed in that photo, like the girl did in The Exorcists, when she turned her head all the way around. Creepy.
I don’t see a potbelly. You look teeny tiny!
Yeah, that doesn’t look comfy Tommy, silly cat.
I need to get some curtains too. The apartment building we live in doesn’t technically provide window coverings and the blinds that are up are rickety ass and half coming down, but I am reluctant to spend two cents on window coverings that we will not take with us because the windows are some insane size. Now we’re on the 22nd floor, so it’s not so much privacy but I’m sure it would make a big difference to get rid of the light pollution. But have no confidence in my ability to actually install said window coverings if I were to get some. And you know, don’t want to spend two cents on a rental, but been here for 18 months and the housing market here is so insane, we might want to break down and buy some damn blinds because saving up 5% of $350,000-$500,000 might take another year or two more. *Sigh*
I have to go thumbs down on the curtains, too. How about 2″ wood blinds in white? I really like the 1st sweater, and yes, the hair is cute. Hold your head like that always!
Love the sweater with the belt – it makes you look soo thin!
No on the curtins, but a huge YES on the first sweater!!! You look FANTASTIC in that sweater – and keep the belt. I think the thing about the first sweater is that is has enough structure that it doesn’t “hang.” The second one adds so much weight to you because of the draping. Your hair looks great, just find another solid sweater similar to the first one and you will have great things to wear both for Christmas, and around town.
I would think white blinds with some sheer lavender panels (for accent) would look nice. Love the first sweater!!
I’m sorta hetin’ the curtains, but I bet either white blinds with sheers over them, or maybe the plantation shutters by themselves, would be great.
But you? – You look mah-velous!
I have to agree with most. No on the curtains. Same type curtains in a dark purple would look great though.
Yep the curtains are the wrong color. It’s so hard to match purples so I agree with the blinds & sheers. Also – you could get roman blinds instead of the icky – metal/plastic blinds. I like the shutter idea too.
On the sweater front, the first looked great – but tighten up the belt. I know – you are like me – very self-consious of the belly. I’ve been losing weight using MediFast and it’s working fantastic. 60 pounds since October. Now I have a belly full of bread dough. I’ve been looking at the Spanx products, but haven’t purchased yet. I’m going to wait for more weight to come off. Plastic surgery is way in the distance for me. I decided before I get the tummy tuck that I have to keep the weight off for 2 years to make sure I don’t yo-yo. However, if I don’t get the weight off and keep it off, off to the doctor I go for surgery – RNY not lapband either.
Oh well – I just love your logo. I just finished posting my comment and there was Mr. B looking at me. I laugh everytime I see it.
I think the belt on the burgundy sweater is VERY flattering. The color looks mah-ve-lous on you, too. Maybe Tommy saw you holding your head funny while taking pictures and was trying to imitate you? 🙂
About the curtains…hmmm. Your bedspread is solid, right? So patterned curtains (or sheers over wood blinds) might be nice, but I know from experience that finding a pattern you love is almost impossible.
I agree that the navy curtains are the wrong color for the room. White blinds or roman shades would look great – you can get black-out fabric to line them with if letting in too much light at night is a concern. Do you sew? You could take a paint chip to a fabric store and find fabric in a shade or pattern that matches/complements the purples in the room and sew up some curtain panels pretty easily. The tabs would be more time consuming, but a simple pocket curtain only needs a couple of seams.
I think you look great in the red sweater!
Also, Target sells a product called Assets which is essentially the same as Spanx but a lot cheaper. They might even be designed by the same person.
Yeah, I’m not too keen on the blue curtains either. I like Christine’s idea about the shutters – they would look fantastic, but they aren’t budget friendly. You could go with a contrasting curtain color, like yellow. Sewing some curtains might be your best bet.
Blue Curtains- eh. Not so much. Do they seem too short to anyone else?
Red Sweater- Adorable, belt and all.
Blue Sweater- I liked it better than you did.
Tommy Cullen- Flexible, funny, furry. Who couldn’t love that combo?
I second the motion of the curtains being a little on the short side. My suggestion: no need to match the side of the window exactly, get some full-length, down to the floor curtains in a more coordinated color. Possibly a dark purple, blackberry-ish sort of thing.
Love the red sweater (but wouldn’t be sad if the belt were to go away).
Sorry but the curtians overpower the room.
This is my first comment, I believe… Anyway, I have these white faux-wood blinds in several windows of my house. The were more expensive than the plastic blinds, but much cheaper than curtains or shutters. Anyway, they have them at Lowes/Home Depot (that’s where we bought them). I like them because they are easy to clean. I think that the sheers that someone else mentioned would soften up the blinds and that would be nice for a bedroom.
Hate the curtains. And don’t buy Spanx. They are horrifyingly uncomfortable. Yeah, you will look all smooth and shit, but after about an hour, you’ll be clawing at your body and wishing for death. You look fine as is. The red sweater is cute, but you never listen to me. Just get an appliqued sweater and get it over with.
Oh god, after reading all your comments, I feel badly saying that I don’t like the curtains, Robyn. It’s the color though, not the curtains themselves.
You do look great- it’s so amazing to see how *small* you are. I was thinking of buying a Spanx (or three).
The red sweater looks awesome on you. It’s hard to break clothing habits, though. The curtains, though, ugg. Too short and wrong color. I like the idea of getting curtains that go all the way to the floor, but if you do that you definitely don’t want to go with as dark a color as that navy. It’d look like a great, gaping hole in your wall and would completely overpower your room. The blinds (or shutters) + sheers would definitely work in there. You’d be surprised by how much light the blinds (or shutters) would block. Especially since you just need the light blocked during the night.
I don’t care for the navy curtains either. I agree that long, floor length panels would look great, and then you could swoop them open in the day and close them at night. Also, I would try getting something in a similar shade as your bedspread (a darker, muted-ish purple) but not necessarily matchy-matchy.
And I like the red sweater! The blue sweater, not so much.
I’m going to vote for a valance with a light blocking pull-down shade hiding underneath. I think the cats would love to “play” with floor length sheers too much. I always want to take pictures of different outfits while I’m in the dressing room but I’m always afraid people will hear the clicking of a camera and wonder what on earth I’m doing!
The first sweater looks awesome……and I think belts suck:P The blue one is nice too, the other one makes ya look much thinner though:P Ack on the curtains!
Not luv-in the drapes. I don’t know if its the color or the length.
You look fabulous!
The curtains need to go back. Navy is WAY too dark, and avoid white if possible. A neutral with a nice subtle print that compliments the wall color is the way to go. You have a lot of dusky purples and plums in the room so look across the color wheel to yellow/ yellow-green to give some punch.
Hi!
I think the red sweater, and the blue sweater look great on you!
I have a couple of suggestions for your window coverings. I work at JCP in the window dept. I recommend going with a roman black out shade (keeps your room nice and dark) I would go with a waterfall roman shade in white or cream. Then if you would like I would go with either supreme tab tops, or Wendy tap tops in white or cream if you would like to. However, with the roman waterfall shade it’s really not necessary. Check out your jcp window dept. I know sometimes there is sticker shock with shades, and curtains. However JCP has sales often, and they also have a friends, and family day every quarter. Let me know if you are interested in the friends and family, and I can send you a coupon the next time we have that event going on.
They have actual wood blinds at Home Depot and Lowe’s that would match your hardwood floors and they are not the “special order” kind. I think mine were around $30. They darken my bedroom quite nicely. 🙂
I like both sweaters, but the first one does make you look thinner. Like you need help in that department!
And the curtains…no. Fred has done SUCH an amazing job with all of the paint colors that I’m not sure where his head was when he thought navy and purple were a go. I think Fred is spending too much time thinking about his “cock” and not enough time thinking about interior decorating. Men can be so easily distracted when “cock” is involved.
Love the red sweater!
On Spanx – I don’t think they’re worth it. Anything that sucks you in that much can slow down circulation. Ever since I had to deal with blood clots at age 25 and the excruciating pain that they cause, I try to do anything and everything to assist circulation.
On the curtains – I have the exact same bed set that you do, Robyn. I love my purple and silver comforter/sheets. While I didn’t paint my walls that color (but I sure would love to), I went with a light purple (almost lilac) sheer over my blinds. I never have to open/close the sheers because they let so much light in and they look so pretty.
The sheers I found at Kmart. I think this is the link, though the color of mine in person is much lighter.

Though this doesn’t solve the problem if you don’t intend to hang blinds… 🙂
Good luck!
Oh you need some room darkening pleaded shades. You can lower them and it is dark at any time. I have them in all my bedrooms. I can nap like a baby when I need to or sleep in.
“JESUS FUCKING CHRIST ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!”
If I had a nickel for every time I uttered that phrase, well, I’d have a fucking lot of nickels!!
White curtains to match the trim I say. Or nice white blinds. Or both.
Wear the red sweater, twice. Very flattering, great color. No one will notice but you that you wore it twice. The blue one too baggy at the bottom, adds pounds and not as dressy/appropriate looking as the first. Hey, you asked!
The curtains get two cat paws down.
I agree with some of the others…roman waterfall shades or white plantation shutters would look very crisp and cottage-y.
Let me guess – you didn’t like the red sweater because it was TOUCHING you? Hee! Curtains – I don’t care for the navy with your purple paint & bedding. After reading the comments, if you want to go short, I like the JCP person’s suggestions about a roman shade in white/blackout backing.
I vote no on the curtains the colors just don’t go very well. We have light color curtains in our bedroom but they have the blackout feature on them and they work great.
I also love the first sweater on you. The color goes really good with your skin tones.
Hi Robyn – I feel a bit like I’m butting in. Not only am I male :), but I don’t read you all that often (my wife – Webster – reads you every day).
Anyway, you are looking great – congratulations!
The burgundy is a great color on you, but I don’t like the belt either. The other sweater fits more like a summer tee-shirt, and the color doesn’t flatter you. It’s okay, just not great.
The curtains…the word that comes to mind is monolithic. I either expect to hear the theme to 2001 A Space Odyssey – duh duhhh DUH DUHHHH – or watch the lights dim and see the flicker of a projector as the curtains part. The blue was definitely the wrong choice.
I really like plantation shutters (with a treatment of some kind, especially), but if you’re looking for the formality of a drape you really need to go floor length and in a matching color (or pattern – personally I’m a fan of chintzes, but maybe they’re not so much in style now, or not your taste).
By the way, Fred’s doing a great job on the new coop. The framing looks really good (though I’m not a professional or anything).
Chris
First, a Big nix on the blue curtains. Blue in a lavender and purple room — What was Fred thinking? At least he got nice colors on his cock, who also is very pretty, er, handsome.
I was thinking of long floral panels of small multi-colored flowers that include the colors of the room plus yellow, and maybe other pale colors as well. These could be end panels to dress the white plantation shutters. They would add a touch of pretty to the function of blinds or shutters.
Second, I liked the first sweater, even with the belt (very stylin’ these days), because it fits you well, it is form fitting, and the belt actually distracts from the extra flab which will be gone in a few months anyway, but especially because it seems to match your hair color. I think it looks very good on you.
The blue one – UGH! reverting back to baggy habits, and not quite the most flattering color on you.
And third, the purse arrived and I really like it. As you may or may not know, I have MS and use a walker when out of the house, and the purse can hold a decent sized book, a steno pad, my wallet and keys, and a few various items that women always cram into their purses to weigh them down. So a great big THANK YOU for picking my name for it! (- even though I secretly coveted the folding shopping bags.)
Well, let us know what you decide on all of this. Mm Kay? And have a very pleasant Christmas, not just a dutiful one.
…and adding to the mountain of “Nays” to the list…do not go for the curtains. I’m all for the timber/white shutters, myself. White would be safest.
I’m terrible at picking curtains, but have a lot of experience with blinds. JCpenney online is great for shopping for both. Domestications blinds are better. We have had the room darkening ones in our bedroom for 9 years. Still working well. Just bought some for the den. Ordered Penney’s blinds this spring and they didn’t work as well. Didn’t pleat right, too short. Got gold sheers from Penney’s. Love them. They have great deals on clearance rods and holdbacks too. Sign up for Domestications emails and they will send discounts.
Curtains – bad. Too short, wrong color. Another place they might be perfect. Not here. Something with a pattern? Dark purple, lavender, and introduce a bit of a color not yet in your room.
You’re gorgeous. Wear something you feel fabulous in whether it’s new or old. It’s all about attitude. Wear it and rock it.
Merry Christmas!
I have that sweater with the belt!
Robyn, you look fabulous in that cardigan. I love the longer length and colour.
