Comments: Where did you get that cat hair mug??!! I have to HAVE one! I got mine on sale at Parisian, but you can find them online at Our Name is Mud. It’s become my favorite mug, ever, and I’m thinking of rounding out my mug collection with a couple of the other mugs the same company offers, ’cause they crack me UP.

How do you feel about the neighbors who took the 2 adults cats in, letting them roam loose? Our cats never go outside. I remember our vet saying the average life span of a male cat outdoors was only 2 years. I’m not thrilled about it, but apparently Maxi and Newt were so miserable inside that they felt they didn’t have a choice. I know that during the several days we had them inside our house, they howled until they were hoarse, and I’m pretty sure they tried to dig their way out (via the windowsills).

Man, that picture is scary — reminds me of the sick sister in the movie Pet Semetary. Does your spine stick out all crazy, too? My spine does NOT stick out all crazy. Give me a few years, and maybe I’ll develop myself a Dowager’s Hump and it’ll be a different story.

Robyn! Good lord woman, what are you doing up and writing a journal entry at THIS time of morning?! I mean, I’m glad to hear from you and all, but… good lord. Is this some sort of new leaf you’re overturning, or somethin’? I was up early yesterday because I had an early appointment on the other side of Huntsville. Believe you me – I didn’t WANT to be up that early, and I’m not usually up that early if I can possibly avoid it!

  1. I like your new t-shirt but it seems to me that it would be more accurate if it said that the world was annoying YOU, one idiot at a time…. thus necessitating your move to the country, and the way you hate to stand in checkout lines, and all the other ways the public pisses you (and me) off.

  2. Two years life-span for male cats that are allowed to go outdoors? Hmmm … our Candy is now 16 and Ricky is 14, and they have always used the pet door to come and go as they please. Of course, they were neutered when they were young, and we live in a semi-rural neighborhood … but they are very healthy and active, so I’m not so sure about that statistic.

  3. Hello from a Maineah just up the road a piece from your Mom’s digs!
I have two male cats who were firmly ensconced in an outdoorsy livestyle when I got them. I tried to convert them, but experienced the same things you did: incessant howling and digging at the doors and windows. Two different vets told me that although it is definintely safer for a kitty to be an indoor kitty, a lot depends on the environment. My cats, who are 6 yrs. and 8 yrs., are neutered and live in a quiet, residential area. Even so, my 8-yr.-old went missing for two days and turned up with an injury most likely caused by a car. (All’s well now, though!) After that incident I was desperate to keep both kitties in, but they would have none of it and commenced howling like they were being tortured. The vet said that some cats just won’t stay in after having a taste of freedom. I think his exact words were, “it can make them neurotic, which will make you psychotic.”
I’ve had people criticize me for having outdoor cats, and I’ve had people criticize me for keeping them in when I’m working long hours and it’s -20F. You can’t make everyone happy, that’s for sure!
Isn’t Lisbon High School where Stephen King graduated? I played basketball in high school and remember traveling to LHS for games and seeing/hearing that somewhere.

  4. Go the kitties wander up and down the steps as the sun moves? That’d be too funny if they did.

  5. Funny. I too decided I liked working outside when we moved in this house. And the bonus is not only am I sucking in all that fresh air but getting exercise (darn fine exercise!)AND improving the house and yard. Win-win!
