Sights from around Crooked Acres.
Nance and Rick sent me this mini rose bush after I had surgery (plastic surgery, maybe? I don’t remember!), and it has languished in a tiny pot and almost died, and finally I transplanted it into a big pot, and it’s never been happier.
“You has food for me?” (That’s food on his nose.)
These pigs all of a sudden got really, really long.
One of the way-too-many roosters we have.
Another rooster. Doesn’t it look like he’s twirling around and his skirt’s flying up in the air?
Yet another rooster. I can’t help it, the roosters are so pretty! This is Mr. Friendly.
Rooster – this is the one we call the Road Runner ’cause he’s so long-legged and goony looking.
Rooster. We call this one “the new guy” because he was one of a batch of chicks Fred sold back in the spring. He told the guy that if any of the birds turned out to be roosters, we’d take it back. This one turned out to be a rooster, so back he came.
The turkeys, on top of the coop.
Sidling along the tree branch that touches the top of the coop…
Trying to get higher. We figure we’re going to go out one night and find them roosting 50 feet up in the tree.
I always forget what pretty stripes Terry has, until I see them in pictures.
Hoyt has no complaint (but then, he’s sleeping. Give it time!).
The many faces of Augustus Gloop, aspiring film star.
“You wouldn’t LIKE me when I’m angry.”
(And yes, Mary Jo, I’m sure I can work up a “Day in the Life” entry for them. Give me a few weeks.)
Previously
2008: And since there’s not a lot going on around here (except that it’s raining for the first time in forever, yay!), here are some pictures from around Crooked Acres.
2007: Whither Tom-Tom goest, the Stank will follow.
2006: No entry.
2005: No entry.
2004: I’m just going to sit here and whine about being cold and thirsty, I suppose. Sounds like a plan!
2003: Just know that it was a little SKEERY.
2002: This is a mighty exciting entry, isn’t it? Could I be any more interesting? Should I do an entry about watching paint dry, or what?
2001: “Farm boy, fetch me some ice! Farm boy, fetch me a diet coke, chop-chop!”
2000: No entry.
I have always been scared of roosters. Do they chase you a lot? Do they seem to sense fear? I have been watching less tv and reading my book more. You are a good influence! I love the turkeys in the trees pictures. They are kind of ugly-cute. Agustus Gloop will grow up to be one handsome long haired cat. Hope you get pictures so we can all see him!
Your photo captions sort of beg the question: Have you guys named any kittens after the characters from Friends yet? (You’ve had so many now that I can’t keep track!)
Well hello, Miz Robyn..
I had posted this in the ‘best of’ entry about how you and Fred came to be, and then I thought ‘who really goes back to things they’ve posted from 2001?!’ I decided to re-post my comment here, even though it doesn’t have anything to do with today’s post. Hope you don’t mind too much.
I found your journal through the Bullmarket Frogs blog, and am now thoroughly addicted. I just love your stories, and have laughed out loud in my office (don’t worry, everyone here already thinks I’m crazy) many a time, reading about asshole roosters, crazy cats and kittens, etc. I was affected by your ongoing saga with weight loss, surgery.. and dumping.. wow, I didn’t even know what that was, and I’m so glad you put a link in there to explain it.
I met my husband online as well, and wanted to say how much I enjoyed your tale of how you met. My husband lives in NYC and I live in Toronto, Canada. I’m currently working towards immigrating to the U.S., which has been going on for about a year and a half so far.. the end may be in sight, we hope. I’m not allowed to enter the U.S. until this process is complete, so my husband has been coming up to visit me once every 4-6 weeks since we’ve been married (just over a year and a half). I used to go down to see him, which was tough, because I’m so scared of flying that I have to take drugs in order to get on a plane.. but it’s one of those things you do for love, as you know.
Thanks so much for your journal, insights on both the little and big things that make life interesting, your wit and wisdom. Oh, and your jam.. I’ll be ordering for Christmas!
Maggie
Hi Maggie –
I had actually seen your comment (I get them in my email inbox) and meant to respond to it, but something shiny caught my attention and distracted me. 🙂
What a nice comment – thank you so much! I’m glad that you’re enjoying my site. You can probably tell that I have a pretty good time writing it, most of the time, and I love hearing from readers.
You totally have my sympathy, having to be apart from your husband and only see each other every 4 – 6 weeks! I remember the time Fred and I spent apart when we first fell in love (though admittedly, things did move fast – we met online in March, and were living together by mid-August!), and I’d never want to go back and have to do that again. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you that you’re able to move even sooner than you hope!
Thank you for reading, and thanks for your sweet comment! 🙂
Robyn
Hi Robyn,
I have a question for the Friday question/answer-a-thon 🙂
Where do George and Gracie go when it’s raining or it’s really cold outside? I know they have heavy coats that provide a lot of protection but do they seek shelter in the chicken coop or what?
Signed,
Just Curious
Friday question – or maybe this one has already been answered -did you get the turkeys solely for meat, or do they lay eggs as well? If so, what do turkey eggs taste like?
Oh, the little fuzzbutt grey one is just adorable! But, has there ever been an uncute baby animal? A mini sea cucumber is probably cute.
I think you should have named Gus Don King – the first picture sure looks like him! He’s going to be a very handsome man when he grows up big and strong!
The economy is hitting home again. My employer is eliminating positions again. Grrr. Keep me in your prayers. So far, two co-workers are gone. I probably have a 50-50 chance, depending on how deep they cut this time. Gulp. My employer doesn’t just lay off – they terminate.
Ugh – keeping you in my thoughts, Val!
Did your email link break? 🙂
Any chance of one of those turkeys making it to your table come November 26th?
My gosh, the stripes on these True Bloods. Just amazing.
